Burns are still destroying lives. And costing the healthcare system many millions of dollars. Preventing is best, but once the burn has occurred intensive treatment is often needed.
In Uganda burns are still one of the most common causes of trauma in the country.

Currently Interplast Holland has a team in Uganda introducing a new technique for burn treatment. This MEEK technique creates bigger expansions for grafts and can help to treat patients with big burns. Thanx to doctors of Dutch Burn Unit of Maasstad/Rotterdam and Rode Kruis Ziekenhuis/Beverwijk, this technique is now introduced in Africa. Dr Annebeth de Vries (burn and pediatric surgeon, Beverwijk) and her team is teaching surgeons and nurses.

Together with dr Kalanzi ( head Burn Unit in Kampala, Uganda), Interplast Holland will explore ways to evaluate the implementation and use of this technique. And see if this should be introduced in many other places in Africa
